Step one done

Hi all,

As I sit here awaiting the arrival of the real mylove (Cookie of course), I thought I would give a quick update. I have just completed my final Chemo treatment, and that seems to be a milestone to me. Step 1 is over, and it is on to the transplant on Tuesday (I get Monday off for good behavior). Really can't complain too much about the first 6 days...only minor issues. The big news this morning was I got permission to take a real shower!! Amazing how you appreciate the little things in life at times like this (that includes a good BM!). I'm sure that the shower will not only make me feel better, but be good news for all who enter my room. One interesting task I have today, starting a half hour before the treatment, and lasting for 6 straight hours (I am almost 3 hours into it) is the job of sucking on ice cubes non-stop for that span. This is called kryo therapy for those of us in the know, and is intended to constrict the blood vessels in the mouth to keep out the drug I got today from entering that area and causing mouth sores. (Don't want to get too graphic, but I thought that was interesting.)
Luckily, this is a time of lots of sports on TV, so I usually can entertain myself that way. In fact the Bulls game just started....GO BULLS! Hope all you football fans got your wishes on draft day. What's up with the Cowboys you Dallas people? How about da Bears getting a real quarterback?
The real Mylove, Kim and Grandma Dee just arrived so I will sign off for now. Love to all!

Woo hoo! Step one is done! We love reading your blog, but it may be too much info if you start telling us about your good BM! Congratulations on that and the shower, too. We're sure both myloves were pleased about that.

love you,
Julie and Ricky

Mike and Cookie,
Dave and I love you both and were so happy to get your email the other day. We love reading your updates and are THRILLED that things are going as well as they are. I believe everything happens for a reason and it is no coincidence that we are having our treatments on the same day. I will be sending strong, positive energy your way from the operating room. We can email hospital room to hospital room. We love you so much. Remember, you may have cancer but cancer doesn't have you!!! Let me know if you want me to send you my "kick butt" music mix :)
Love you, Jen (and Dave)

I didn't know Jewish men could suck for six hours. I'm not going to sign this post for fear it is Off Center.

Hi Mikey,
I just figured out how to get into your blog. Evidently, I left out the . after blogspot and just entered keepingcenteredblogspot.com I am not a techie:( I just got home from the river, or as Uncle Sid fondly refers to it, Buullshit City. We met Randee and Ken for Randees's birthday. The slot g-ds were very good to her, but laughed at me. She won over $1,500.00 on various slots, me - I lost on various slots. Brucie will drive back tomorrow. You sound great, always the amazing trooper. Hopefully the worst is over now and you will be well again very soon. You have some very funny people blogging. I liked the Jewish men comment! Thinking of you daily..
Love,
Bonnie B

Hi Mike and Cookie,
I think we are going to need the CD version of your blog - starting with "My Love"!!!! I love the name---couldn't you see a puppy named, Mylove? Anyway, we're hoping that freezing your mouth worked - fascinating, but it makes sense! We will try it one night but maybe adding just a little scotch or we could freeze our entire drink! We are sending our most positive wishes and hopes that times sails by. So happy Phase 1 is over - You are always on our mind - love, mari and barry

Hi Mike. We're wishing you the best with your procedure tomorrow and are thinking about you and Cookie all the time. Wasn't the Bulls game A THRILLER?? Wish we could the same about the draft. Lots of love, Leslie and Norm

Mike - good Monday morning! Glad to hear you have the day off - enjoy it. The non-Bear fans who live in Dallas think it was a great draft for the Cowboys. I'll take our new Bear quarterback over all their picks. We'll have to make Wii Golf part of the sales meeting games. I want you on my side!!
Stay positive.

Great to hear that Step 1 is completed!
Keep up the great attitude and I'll be cheering on Da Bulls.
As for the Cowboys, just a part of Jerry's circus. He has a master plan, just not sure if he knows how to execute it and if it will work.
Take care,
Paul Stephens

We love reading the blog and comments from friends and family ... you and Cookie are clearly loved by many! It's great how you can make a hospital stay sound like you're at Club Med.

Wow! What's wrong with a good BM! Such controversy. It's the little things in life? It was great seeing you Saturday. You look and sound terrific!
Couldn't you have showered before I got there? Best of luck tommorrow. Karyn and I love you and Cookie. My best to Mylove! You decide which one.
